Caring for Your New Blooms

Once you have got your flowers home, we want them to last as long as possible. The most common question I get asked in the shop is: “How long do they last?”.

The honest answer? It depends on how you treat them. Everything dies eventually, but with a little bit of love, you can keep them looking fresh for much longer. The RHS advises recutting stems and using clean water to extend vase life, and we couldn’t agree more.

• Trim the stems: Always cut about 2cm off the bottom at an angle before putting them in water.
• Fresh water: Change the water every couple of days. If you wouldn’t drink it, your flowers won’t like it either.
• Keep them cool: Don’t put them directly over a radiator or in full direct sunlight.
